Russell Highton Seek Truth has been created to provide information for everyone on the prevention of Blood Clots during elective surgery and the most important element aftercare.

Russell Highton died on January 13th 2008 due to appalling aftercare he received after a simple knee operation at Wrightington Hospital, Wigan, Lancashire, England. They failed to take into account previous medical history and even basic care was not undertaken from the feckless staff on Ward 6.

The hospital failed to give basic procedures.

Failed to act on dvt warning signs and symptoms

Dopplerultrasound
flo-tron boots

Compression stockings plus Impulse pads

Heparin Injection the correct dose

Warfarin the correct dose (It only starts working after 5-7 days)

These basic steps would have made sure that this foundation and website did not exist and Russell Highton would be happy and healthy as was the case when he first went into the hospital.

A: Deep vein thrombosis, commonly referred to as DVT, is a disease of the circulation. It occurs most often in patients who are not correctly looked after post operatively.

Blood passing through the deepest veins in the calf or thigh flows relatively slowly: when a DVT occurs it moves so slowly that it forms a solid clot which becomes wedged in the vein.

Q: What is a PE?

A: PE and DVT should probably be regarded as a clinicopathological entity from a DVT a more serious PE (pulmonary embolism) develops.

Q: What symptoms can be found?

A: PE can cause breathlessness, chest pain, dizzy spells, coughing, sweating, anxiety and in severe cases, collapse and death.

The most important standard is that hospitals must tell patients and their families that a hospital mistake was made. By getting the hospital mistake out into the open, health care professionals will become aware of the problem and find ways to avoid making the same mistakes in the future. The new standards require that hospitals must work to prevent errors, design systems to ensure patient safety, and act on reports of medical mistakes.
